I've been testing a compact yet incredibly powerful setup that combines an Anker F2000 with a WattCycle golf cart battery and a few clever additions. The surprising takeaway? What I Built

My RV power solution centers around an Anker F2000 portable power station, known for its robust 2400W continuous inverter. But even with its expansion battery, 4kWh isn't always enough for extended trips, especially with an RV air conditioner. The core of this upgrade is a WattCycle 5376Wh LiFePO4 golf cart battery. Despite its name, these batteries are perfect for RVs due to their small footprint, high capacity, and vibration-resistant build. I integrated this battery with an MPPT solar charge controller and a dedicated AC charger for generator input.

Why It Works

The beauty of this setup lies in leveraging the strengths of each component. The Anker F2000 has a capable inverter that can even start a 15,000 BTU air conditioner. However, its solar input is capped at 1000W, and directly plugging it into a generator can lead to de-rated output due to pass-through charging. The WattCycle battery, with its massive 5.6kWh capacity (exceeding the Anker F2000 plus its expansion battery), acts as a central energy hub.

By routing solar panels through a versatile MPPT solar charge controller, I can input significantly more than the Anker's 1000W limit, charging the WattCycle battery quickly. This bypasses the Anker's internal solar charge controller and pass-through charging limitations.

The Anker F2000 alone offers 2048Wh. With its expansion battery, that doubles to 4096Wh. The WattCycle battery provides a robust 5376Wh (or 5.6kWh, as tested). This means the WattCycle battery alone has more capacity than the Anker F2000 and its expansion battery combined.

The Anker F2000's solar input maxes out at 1000W, taking about 4 hours to fully recharge (assuming no power consumption and perfect sunlight). By using the external MPPT controller with the WattCycle battery, I can introduce over 2000W of solar, effectively recharging the entire combined capacity in about half the time. The 18A ALLPOND AC charger, pulling around 1000W from a gas generator, can continuously feed the WattCycle battery, which in turn charges the Anker F2000.
