Double Bluetti AC200MAX Runtime with a Temgo LiFePO4

Running a refrigerator for over 100 hours during a power outage might sound like a dream, but I made it a reality by hacking my existing Bluetti AC200MAX system. This setup vastly increases runtime and delivers incredible bang for your buck.

What I Built

My core setup includes a Bluetti AC200MAX power station, which has a 2048Wh capacity. To that, I've connected two Bluetti B230 expansion batteries, each adding another 2048Wh. This brings the total Bluetti capacity to 6144Wh, or just over 6 kilowatt-hours.

The hack involves integrating a Temgo 51.2V 100Ah LiFePO4 battery into this system. This single external battery adds an impressive 5120Wh of capacity, nearly doubling the entire setup's energy storage. The connection is straightforward: I used an MC4 to XT90 cable to link the Temgo battery to one of the Bluetti B230 input ports. For safety, I included a 30A circuit breaker to protect the system from any potential issues.

Why It Works

The genius of this setup lies in the voltage matching. The Bluetti B230 batteries operate at 51.2V, and conveniently, the Temgo LiFePO4 battery is also 51.2V. This perfect voltage match allows the Temgo battery to directly charge the Bluetti system's external battery inputs without any complex voltage conversion, making it a truly plug-and-play expansion.

Another critical factor is how the Bluetti system manages power. It prioritizes drawing power from external batteries first. This means that as long as the external Temgo battery is connected, the Bluetti will use its power before tapping into its internal or B230 batteries. The same prioritization applies to charging: if solar panels are connected, the system will charge the external Temgo battery first, keeping it at a high state of charge before moving on to the internal batteries of the AC200MAX.

Math & Run-Time Numbers

Let's crunch the numbers to see the real benefit. My original Bluetti setup (AC200MAX + two B230s) provides 6144Wh (6.144 kWh) of capacity. By adding the Temgo 51.2V 100Ah battery, I gain an additional 5120Wh (5.12 kWh).

This brings the total usable capacity to a massive 11,264Wh (11.264 kWh), nearly double the original setup. Now, for the cost comparison:

That's a significant saving, getting more than double the capacity for a fraction of the cost per kilowatt-hour. With my refrigerator drawing about 60 watts, the full 11.264 kWh could theoretically run it for over 187 hours. However, to maximize the lifespan of LiFePO4 batteries, I prefer to keep them between 20% and 80% state of charge. Utilizing 60% of the total capacity (about 6.7 kWh) still gives me an impressive 112 hours of refrigerator runtime, which is more than four and a half days of backup power.

When To Use This vs. Alternatives

This hack is ideal for existing Bluetti AC200MAX, AC300, or AC500 owners who want to dramatically expand their system's capacity without breaking the bank on additional OEM batteries. If you're looking for extended backup power for essential appliances during a grid-down situation, and you're comfortable with a bit of DIY, this setup delivers immense value.

Alternatives include purchasing more expensive Bluetti B230 or B300 expansion batteries, which offer seamless integration and warranty protection but come at a much higher cost per kilowatt-hour. Another option is to invest in a larger, all-in-one power station, but this might mean replacing your current setup rather than expanding it.
